Where music happens

Virtual Classroom!

May20

I have created a virtual classroom for students to explore music links.  Almost all of the items in the room are linked to something cool.  There is also more than one room (like a ukulele room).

Welcome Back!

April21

Welcome Back from Spring Break River Otters!

This week I have added a lesson with Shakers.  The video shows you how to create shakers and then we sing and dance to 2 songs!  With in the next few days I will also add a rhythm lesson that you can use your shakers again on, so don’t lose them!   You can find all of the video tape lessons under the Distance Learning Lessons tab.

When’s my Zoom? Click Here for the music zoom schedule.

Right now the focus is on maintaining the instrumental students, especially those going on to the CMS Band and Orchestra Program.  I am hoping to add in a few k-2 zooms in May, but for now, I hope you enjoy the videos!

Welcome to River School Music

August8
All children at River School have general music classes once a week.  The curriculum consists of music from the GamePlan Curriculum for grades k-2, Be a Recorder Star in 3rd grade, Mallet Madness in 4th grade, and a study of American Music in 5th grade.  Students will learn basic note reading, music appreciation and music history through out their years at River School.
The music classroom has a full Orff-Schulwerk Instrumentarium.  Consisting of Bass xylophones and metallophones, alto xylophone and metallohphones, soprano xylophones and metallophones, glockenspiels, conga drums, hand percussion, recorders and more. Children learn to play these percussion instruments to accompany the songs they sing.
Students in grades 4 and 5 may participate in the instrumental and choral program.  Students meet once a week to play in band, orchestra or sing in chorus. For more information please go to our instrumental page.

Performance opportunities include grade level musicals that tap into the classroom curriculum and are performed through out the school year.  In March CUSD sponsors a district-wide choral festival at Sunset Center, band festival at CMS, and string festival at CHS.
